Hofer's Milchtankstelle

Hofer's Milchtankstelle

On the idyllic holiday farm, 27 cows live in a modern new playpen. Fresh grass, high-quality hay and non-genetically-modified fodder are on the menu here.

The Hofer family lives in Obergrasensee near Pfarrkirchen in the beautiful Rott valley. The milk is also marketed directly. The milk dispenser on the Stöbig vegetable farm in Degernbach in Pfarrkirchen can be accessed around the clock. Transparency is particularly important to the Hofers. Therefore they are pleased to welcome customers, who (after registration) can look at the stable and the animals personally. They also supply some ice cream parlours, such as Il 2 in Pfarrkirchen or Il Gelato in Eggenfelden.
What is a2 milk?
Since 2000 there has been a listed dairy company in New Zealand which markets the "natural form" of cow's milk, the so-called a2 milk. This abbreviation stands for the genotype of the ß-casein variant A2A2. A long time ago, there was a point mutation in cattle of European origin which genetically deviated from the normal form, the so-called A1 variant. The book "The Devil in the Milk" by Keith Woodford, a professor of agriculture, drew attention to early research in the media, according to which the A1-ß-casein variant is held responsible for digestive problems and its milk can probably also trigger a milk allergy. In the meantime, various consumers have reported that, as supposedly lactose-intolerant consumers, they can tolerate this a2 milk without any problems. If this were the case, many former milk drinkers could be encouraged to consume milk products again.
