Surrounded by unspoiled nature, framed by the heights of the tertiary hills in the north and the alluvial forest of the Inn in the south, the Marktler Bathing Lake extends over an area of 11.5 hectares.
It originated in the 19th century due to the construction of the railway embankment for the Mühldorf-Simbach railway line. This separated an arc of the river Inn. A shallow water lake was created, fed by smaller tributaries and underground springs. This natural, constant renewal of the water provides for regeneration of the water even after contamination by high water from the Inn.
